這個命令提供了到 Tk 剪貼簿的 Tcl 介面，它使用選擇機制來為以後的取回儲存資料。要把資料複製到剪貼簿中，必須呼叫 \fBclipboard clear\fR，隨後是到 \fBclipboard append \fR的一個或多個呼叫的一個序列。要確保自動更新剪貼簿，在返回到事件迴圈之前必須完成所有新增。

給 \fBclipboard\fR 的第一個引數決定剩餘引數的格式和這個命令的行為。當前支援下列形式(form):

\fIType\fR 引數指定返回的選擇的形式(用 ICCCM 術語是想要的轉換“目標”)，並且應當是一個原子名字如     STRING 或 FILE_NAME；詳情參見客戶間通訊協定手冊。\fIType\fR 預設為 STRING。

\fIformat\fR 引數指定用來把選擇傳輸(transmit)到請求者的表示法(ICCCM 的表 2 的第二列)，並且預設為 STRING。如果 \fIformat\fR 是 STRING，則把選擇傳輸為 8-bit ASCII 字元。如果 \fIformat\fR 是 ATOM，則把 \fIdata\fR 分割為用白空格分隔的欄位；把每個欄位轉換成它的原子值，傳輸 32-bit 原子值而不是原子的名字。對於任何其他的 \fIformat\fR，把  \fIdata\fR  分割為用白空格分隔的欄位；把每個欄位轉換成一個 32-bit  整數；向選擇的請求者傳輸一個整數的陣列。注意在轉換之前串聯(concatenate)傳遞給  \fBclipboard append\fR  的字串，所以呼叫者必須注意確保跨越字串邊界的間隔。新增到剪貼簿的有相同 \fItype\fR  的所有專案必須有相同的 \fIformat\fR。

\fIformat\fR 引數只在與不使用 Tk 的請求者相相容時需要。如果使用 Tk 工具箱來取回 CLIPBOARD 選擇，則在請求端把這個值轉換回一個字串，所以 \fIformat\fR 是無關的(irrelevant)。

\fB\-\|\-\fR 引數來標記選項的結束: 下一個引數總是被用做 \fIdata\fR。在資料開始於 \fB-\fR 的時候這個特徵會帶來方便。
