modules\&.dep\&.bin は、\fBdepmod\fP によって作成されるバイナリファイルであり、
/lib/modules/\fIversion\fP 以下のディレクトリにあるすべてのモジュールの依存関係をリストしています。
このファイルは、\fBmodprobe\fP や libkmod のような kmod のツールによって使用されます。

対になるテキスト版が、modules\&.dep という名前で同じディレクトリにあります。
テキスト版は、人間にとって読みやすいという理由から維持されているだけであり、
kmod のどのツールによってもまったく使用されていません。

こうしたファイルは、外部のユーティリティによって編集・利用されることを目的としていません。
ファイルの書式が、将来変わるかもしれないからです。
将来の変更に強く、ほかのツールでも利用できる形でモジュールの情報を取得したいのなら、
こうしたファイルに手を出すよりも、\fBmodinfo\fP(8) コマンドを使用するべきです。
