命令等待多個事情中的一個發生，接著返回而不做其他動作。返回的值總是一個空串。如果第一個引數是 \fBvariable\fR (或它的任何簡寫)則第二個引數是一個全域性變數的名字，並且命令等待這個變數被修改。如果第一個引數是\fBvisibility\fR (或它的任何簡寫)則第二個引數是一個視窗的名字，並且 \fBtkwait\fR 命令等待它的可見性狀態的變化(由到來的 VisibilityNotify 事件來指示)。這種形式典型的用於等待一個新近建立的視窗在螢幕上顯示，此後做一些動作。如果第一個引數是 \fBwindow\fR (或它的任何簡寫)則它的第二個引數是一個視窗的名字，並且 \fBtkwait\fR 命令等待這個視窗被銷燬。這種形式典型的用於等待使用者完成與與對話方塊的互動，此後使用這次互動的結果。
