\&\fBdh_compress\fR はパッケージビルドディレクトリにあるファイルを圧縮する役割を担う debhelper プログラムです。また、圧縮されるファイルをシンボリックリンクが指し示していた場合、圧縮後も正しく指すようにシンボリックリンクを更新します。

デフォルトでは、\fBdh_compress\fR は Debian ポリシーマニュアルの規則に従い圧縮すべきとされるファイルを圧縮します。この場合の圧縮対象のファイルの例としては、\fIusr/share/info\fR、\fIusr/share/man\fR の以下の全ファイル、\fIusr/share/doc\fR 以下にある 4k を 越えるサイズの全ファイル (但し、\fIcopyright\fR、\fI.html\fR ファイル、画像ファイル、また拡張子からすでに圧縮されていることがすでに明らかなファイルは対象から除外されます) 、全 \fIchangelog\fR ファイルとなります。加えて \fIusr/share/fonts/X11/\fR 以下の PCF フォントファイルも圧縮対象となります。

If this file exists, the default files are not compressed. Instead, the file is ran as a shell script, and all filenames that the shell script outputs will be compressed. The shell script will be run from inside the package build directory. Note though that using \fB\-X\fR is a much better idea in general; you should only use a \fIdebian/package.compress\fR file if you really need to.
