poprawnym zalogowaniu się, ale przed uruchomieniem powłoki zgłoszeniowej.

Skrót "motd" oznacza "message of the day" (wiadomość/komunikat dnia). Plik
ten był tradycyjnie używany do tego właśnie celu (wymaga znacznie mniej
miejsca na dysku niż poczta do wszystkich użytkowników).

W systemie Debian GNU/Linux, wyświetlana jest również dynamiczna zawartość
skonfigurowana w \fI/etc/pam.d/login\fP przez \fIpam_exec\fP.
