On some systems, \fBsleep\fP()  may be implemented using \fBalarm\fP(2)  and
\fBSIGALRM\fP (POSIX.1 permits this); mixing calls to \fBalarm\fP(2)  and
\fBsleep\fP()  is a bad idea.
