Dans UNIX\ V6, l'appel \fBgetuid\fP() renvoie \fI(euid << 8) +
uid\fP. UNIX\ V7a introduit des appels \fBgetuid\fP() et \fBgeteuid\fP() séparés.

Les appels système \fBgetuid\fP() et \fBgeteuid\fP() originaux de Linux ne
géraient que des identifiants d'utilisateur sur 16\ bits. En conséquence,
Linux\ 2.4 a ajouté \fBgetuid32\fP() et \fBgeteuid32\fP() qui prennent en charge
des identifiants 32\ bits. Les fonctions \fBgetuid\fP() et \fBgeteuid\fP() de la
glibc qui les encapsulent gèrent de manière transparente ces différences
entre noyaux.

Sur Alpha, au lieu d'une paire d'appels système \fBgetuid\fP() et \fBgeteuid\fP(),
un seul appel système \fBgetxuid\fP() est fourni, lequel renvoie une paire
d'identifiants utilisateur réel et effectif. Les fonctions enveloppes
\fBgetuid\fP()  et \fBgeteuid\fP() de la glibc gèrent cela de manière
