El fichero de texto \fI/etc/ttytype\fP asocia los nombres de tipo de terminal
según \fBtermcap\fP(5)/\fBterminfo\fP(5) a las líneas de tty. Cada línea consiste
en un tipo de terminal, espacio en blanco, y un nombre de tty (un nombre de
dispositivo sin el prefijo \fI/dev/\fP).

Esta asociación es utilizada por el programa \fBtset\fP(1) para asignar a la
variable de entorno \fBTERM\fP el nombre de terminal correcto para la tty
actual del usuario.

Esta facilidad fue diseñada para un entorno tradicional de tiempo compartido
con terminales tontos alfanuméricos conectadas directamente a una
minicomputadora Unix. Actualmente, se encuestra en desuso en estaciones de
trabajo modernas o ordenadores personales con Unix.
